AppSumo 2022 deal – FAQ

Introduction #

What is ShortPixel? What is this deal? Why should I purchase it?

ShortPixel is one of the leading solutions for optimizing images for your website and the most popular service among WordPress developers and experts. If your images need to be compressed, you can entrust it to ShortPixel. We’ve been around since 2014!

The AppSumo 2022 deal gives you the opportunity to get a lot of optimization credits, CDN traffic quota and unlimited Google Drive optimization!

How can I use this deal?

Once you receive the coupon code from AppSumo, log in to your account and redeem it in the “Claim coupon/license key” section.

ShortPixel offers numerous tools for all types of users. With this AppSumo deal, you get access to unlimited image and video optimization when you use our ShortPixel App for Google Drive™ (log in required). You will also get 200,000 one-time credits per code to use with the rest of our tools you see listed here. These include our two famous plugins for WordPress: ShortPixel Image Optimizer (SPIO) and ShortPixel Adaptive Images (SPAI).

How are the credits included in the deal counted?

Please read this article: AppSumo 2022 deal – Credits usage

Can I use this on Squarespace, Wix or Drupal? Will
ShortPixel work with other non-WordPress websites?

No, you cannot :-(. But you can use our online compressor or this other tool to optimize the images (manually) before uploading them to your website. We also have PHP-based tools that you can use on any PHP-based website to optimize your images locally. You can learn more about them here.

If you like what SPAI has to offer, but your website is not based on WordPress, you can implement your own solution using our API. In this case, here are two useful articles:

ShortPixel App for Google Drive™ #

What exactly does this app do?

Our app integrates with your ShortPixel account and connects to your Google Drive account. Once connected, you can browser your Google Drive files and optimize them right from the dashboard!

But we all know that a picture is worth a thousand words:

What types of files can I optimize?

JPG, PNG, GIF, PDF and MP4 (videos – we’re still working on it).

Why should I give ShortPixel read/write/delete permissions to my Google Drive?

ShortPixel needs to be able to download (read) your selected images, PDFs and videos so they can be optimized on our servers. After optimization, ShortPixel will return (write) the optimized files and overwrite (delete) the original.

Your data is safe because we always use encrypted connections, and once the files are optimized, they are be removed from our servers. You can always restore the previous versions of your files by accessing the Google Drive History.

Please remember that once the files have been rewritten, you can revoke ShortPixel’s read/write access to your Drive at any time. You can do this from your Google account settings or from the same ShortPixel dashboard:

Is the ShortPixel app for Google Drive the same as the ShortPixel app for Zapier?

No, it isn’t! When you use our Zapier app, the unlimited credits do not apply.

SPIO & SPAI #

What is the difference between ShortPixel Adaptive Images and ShortPixel Image Optimizer?

You can find a good explanation here.

Do I need to install both ShortPixel plugins?

No, in most cases you only need one plugin. Here is a brief explanation of how the two plugins compare, so you can make an informed decision.

Is there an “installation guide” for ShortPixel Adaptive Images (SPAI)?

Yes, here is one: Step-by-step guide to install and use ShortPixel Adaptive Images (SPAI).

Is there an “installation guide” for ShortPixel Image Optimizer (SPIO)?

Of course, here it is: Step-by-step guide to install and use ShortPixel Image Optimizer (SPIO).

I am already using ShortPixel Image Optimizer, but now I want to use SPAI. What do I need to do?

Please have a look at this article: I already used SPIO for image optimization, what settings should I use with SPAI?

Which images on a web page are processed by ShortPixel Adaptive Images?

SPAI optimizes all images it finds on a web page and serves them from our CDN. This includes images that come from a third-party website (e.g. Pinterest, Instagram). Please note, however, that some images (e.g., images originating from IFRAMEs) may not be processed and served through the CDN. You can learn more about this here.

Why do I need to disable the lazy load feature in other themes/plugins? Can SPAI lazy load the images instead?

ShortPixel Adaptive Images (SPAI) uses its own lazy load functionality to provide scaled images depending on the user’s viewport. Enabling lazy load in another theme/plugin will cause conflicts with our plugin. Therefore, for SPAI to work properly, you need to make sure that you disable lazy loading anywhere else.

Is ShortPixel Adaptive Images compatible with all page builders?

We have tested SPAI extensively with all major page builders and it works great. However, considering the large number of page builders and also the various other plugins and possible interactions, we cannot guarantee that it will work out of the box in every single case. Therefore, we recommend that you test SPAI in your own environment and carefully check for possible conflicts. If you notice anything unusual, deactivate SPAI and contact us and let us know the specifics of your configuration so we can help you.

How do I connect the ShortPixel Adaptive Images plugin I use on my website to my ShortPixel account?

It’s very simple. You just need to associate your domain (website) to your ShortPixel account.

Can I use a different CDN with ShortPixel Adaptive Images?

Of course you can. Learn how to set it up here.

What happens to WebP or AVIF in browsers that do not support this image format?

ShortPixel Adaptive Images makes WebP and AVIF available only to browsers that support these formats. For the other browsers, the original image format (e.g. JPG, PNG) is returned.

CDN #

Can we also use the credits with Autoptimize and its image optimization integration?

Yes! 🙂 And the credits are counted this way.

What is a CDN? What is it good for?

We have an easy to understand explanation here.

Can serving images via ShortPixel CDN (or any other third-party CDN) be bad for SEO?

No, it’s actually beneficial. Your images are “marked” as coming from your website via HTTP headers sent by our system. Search engines look at these headers and associate these images with your website, even if the URL points to the ShortPixel CDN. You can learn more about this here and here.

How can I monitor my CDN usage?

You can log in to your account and go to the Dashboard menu, Reports section. Please note that the data is only visible if you have previously associated your domain.

Alternatively, if you use ShortPixel Adaptive Images, you can view your consumption on the settings page (Settings > ShortPixel AI).

Can I create a custom URL when using your CDN through ShortPixel Adaptive Images?

If you are using ShortPixel Adaptive Images, you have probably noticed that the URLs of your images look like this: https://cdn.shortpixel.ai/spai/w_400,h_400,q_lossy,ret_wait/https://blog.shortpixel.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/romania-mihai-iphone7plus-768×575.jpg

You can change this at any time by using a different CDN along with ShortPixel Adaptive Images. If you are not using another CDN, you can set one up one with Cloudflare and their free plan! You can learn more about it here.

Conditions #

How many codes can I stack up in a single account?

You can purchase and redeem up to 5 codes from the AppSumo 2022 deal in a single ShortPixel account.

What does “unlimited” mean?

Please read this article: AppSumo 2022 deal – Credits usage

How many Google accounts can I use with this deal?

This AppSumo deal is valid for one Google account. Please note that each ShortPixel account can only optimize one Google account, regardless of how many coupons you stack. If you want to optimize more Google accounts, you need to create new ShortPixel accounts.

I used ShortPixel with the AppSumo deal I got in 2017, 2018, 2019 or 2020. Do I need to purchase a new code to get this deal?

No, you don’t need to, because you can continue to use your image optimization credits that you purchased  with the old codes. If you need unlimited credits for Google Drive, you will need to purchase the new deal.

I purchased your AppSumo deal in previous years. Will I get unlimited usage for the Google Drive™ app?

No, you must either purchase the current deal for unlimited optimization or use your credits: How are the credits counted when using the Google Drive Optimization?

Can I use the credits or CDN traffic for multiple websites?

Yes, the credits and CDN traffic can be used on as many websites as you want.

Can I stack this new deal over the previous one? Do I need to create a new account?

Yes, you can combine the new codes (maximum 5) with the previous codes from 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017, and you can do it from your current account without creating a new account.

So, for example, you can have in the same account:

  • 5 codes from AppSumo 2022 (the current deal)
  • 2 codes from AppSumo 2020
  • 3 codes from AppSumo 2017

Do these credits expire?

No. They are one-time credits, which means they have no expiration date and you can use them whenever you want, even 3 years from now! Remember that you cannot reuse them once you have used them, as they are one-time credits.

Troubleshooting #

I already have an active monthly subscription and cannot redeem my AppSumo code

Unfortunately, it is not possible to have a monthly subscription and an AppSumo Lifetime deal in the same account. If you already have a regular monthly subscription, you can:

I just redeemed my code(s) and my account has less credits than expected. Where are my credits?

First, make sure you are logged into the correct account. We have noticed that sometimes our customers have more than one account with ShortPixel and the credits have been redeemed on the second account.

You should also check your subaccounts. If you have assigned credits to your subaccounts, they will not show up in your main account.

I accidentally connected a Google account to my ShortPixel account, and now I cannot connect another account. What can I do?

Please contact us and we will review your case.
