If you have used ShortPixel Image Optimizer to optimize your images and generate the WebP/AVIF versions, then the WebP/AVIF images will remain on your hard drive even if you deactivate our plugin. However, if you have also used ShortPixel’s functionality to deliver the next-gen images and you deactivate ShortPixel, the next-gen images will no longer be delivered.
To resolve this issue, you can either activate ShortPixel again or use an alternative:
- Use ShortPixel Adaptive Images (SPAI). SPAI uses a different method to optimize your images and does not make WebP delivery dependent on your server. If you want to learn more about SPAI, read this article.
- Use FastPixel, an all-in-one cloud based WordPress plugin that automatically applies all the optimizations you can think of to make a website faster. This includes image optimization and WebP/AVIF delivery. More details here.
- If you have an NGINX server, you can configure NGINX to transparently serve WebP or AVIF files when supported.
- Use another plugin to deliver the next generation files created by ShortPixel, such as Cache Enabler or WP Rocket.
- If you use LiteSpeed Cache, you can use it to deliver the WebP files generated by ShortPixel.
