ShortPixel processes images in two different ways, depending on their purpose: normal image optimization (for example, via ShortPixel Image Optimizer) and image delivery via CDN. Below, we clarify how long images are kept in each case:
Images physically optimized #
When you optimize images using ShortPixel Image Optimizer (SPIO) or another tool of ours that just delivers to you the compressed file, the optimized images are kept on our servers for approximately 30 minutes. This allows our image optimization plugins or you to download them. After this period, the images are permanently deleted according to our protocol. Images are stored and processed separately for each client to ensure security and prevent unauthorized access.
Images stored for CDN delivery #
For images that are stored for CDN delivery, the process is different:
- Once an image is stored in our system, it must be accessed again within 13 days to remain available.
- If it is accessed within this period, the image remains stored for up to 40 days.
- However, images may be removed sooner by our CDN provider (bunny.net) depending on various factors beyond our control.
While an image remains in our storage, it ensures quick loading without causing 307 redirects, which can be beneficial for SEO. However, once removed, a 307 redirect may occur until the image is reprocessed or stored again.
