When I deactivate ShortPixel the WebP or AVIF images disappear, why?
If you have used ShortPixel Image Optimizer to optimize your images and generate the WebP/AVIF versions, then the WebP/AVIF images will remain on your hard drive even if you deactivate our plugin. However, if you have also used ShortPixel's functionality to deliver the next-gen images and you deactivate ShortPixel, the next-gen images will no longer be delivered.
To resolve this issue, you can either activate ShortPixel again or use an alternative:
- If you have an NGINX server, you can configure NGINX to transparently serve WebP or AVIF files when supported: WebP instructions / AVIF instructions
- Use another plugin to deliver the next generation files created by ShortPixel, such as Cache Enabler or WP Rocket.
- If you use LiteSpeed Cache, you can use it to deliver the WebP files generated by ShortPixel.
