We offer a popular, easy to use, lightweight and frequently updated WordPress Image Optimization plugin that you can freely use to optimize your images locally. Or you can use our new Adaptive Images plugin, to deliver your images, optimized and properly resized, straight from our fast CDN.
Please refer to the step-by-step guides to get you started with each of the plugins:
Step-by-step guide to install and use ShortPixel Adaptive Images (SPAI)
Step-by-step guide to install and use ShortPixel Image Optimizer (SPIO)

Lossy is the best option for most users. The images processed with Lossy algorithms are the smallest optimized images you can get. So, if the speed of your site is paramount and you want the best balance between optimization and picture quality, we recommend you continue to use Lossy optimization.
Glossy is the best choice if you still care about Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix but you believe that a slight loss of page speed is an acceptable compromise for a top notch image quality.
Lossless optimized images are pixel-by-pixel identical with the originals, but they offer a smaller size reduction compared to either Lossy or Glossy processed files. If you want your image information to remain untouched, while slightly reducing image size, then select this option.

If you are using ShortPixel Image Optimizer, yes, that is correct. If you are using ShortPixel Adaptive Images, a credit equals 5 MB of CDN traffic.

Yes. Both our WordPress Image Optimization plugin and our image optimization tools allow you to backup your files. The WordPress Image Optimization plugin allows you to restore them either individually or in bulk from the admin interface.
If you use our Adaptive Images Plugin, there is no need to backup your images! The optimization is done on the fly ;)

ShortPixel optimizes JPEG, PNG, GIF and PDF type files. We also offer the option to also generate the WebP/AVIF version of the image.

Our light-weight plugin sends the original images to our Image Optimization Cloud where they are compressed. ShortPixel then downloads the optimized images and the unoptimized originals are replaced with their optimized versions. Our ShortPixel Image Optimizer light-weight plugin sends the original images to our Image Optimization Cloud where they are compressed. ShortPixel then downloads the optimized images and the unoptimized originals are replaced with their optimized versions.
On the other hand, with ShortPixel Adaptive Images, every time one of your website's pages is loaded by one of your visitors, the plugin analyzes its HTML/CSS and JS code and replaces each original image with the right-sized & optimized image for that browser and device size. Each replaced image is served from the ShortPixel CDN.

Yes, all the images processed by ShortPixel are optimized in the Cloud. This takes the load off of your server and allows us to produce the best results.

We accept payments via PayPal and credit card.

You have to activate the plugin as the network admin and then activate it manually on each individual site in the multisite. Once you have done that, the Settings menu appears and you can add the API key for each individual site. As an alternative, you can edit wp-config.php and add this line
define('SHORTPIXEL_API_KEY', 'APIKEY');
where ‘APIKEY’ is the API Key received upon sign up. If configured that way, the API key will be used for all the sites of the multisite but will only be visible on the main site’s Settings page, being hidden for the rest of the sites.

A credit is used each time ShortPixel Image Optimizer optimizes an image or thumbnail by at least 5%. If we're not able to optimize an image or thumbnail by at least 5% then no credit will be used :-) Please also note that usually images in your Media Library have 6-8 thumbnails associated and a credit will be used for each featured image or associated thumbnail that is optimized.
ShortPixel Adaptive Images spends 1 credit for every 5 MB of CDN traffic you use.

Because ShortPixel algorithms were perfected while optimizing over twelve billion real-life images. ShortPixel not only offers the best compression for JPEG, PNG, GIF and PDF files but it also saves you a lot of time. After the simple installation, ShortPixel makes sure that all the images on your site are immediately optimized after upload.

After the free sign up, you can purchase a one-time plan for processing your images. You can use it for bulk optimizing your past gallery or for optimizing new images uploaded to your website. The process is different because you pay for it only once. This plan is recommended for websites that have a large gallery that needs to be optimized with ShortPixel Image Optimizer .

Yes! If your site uses PHP then you can use our command line or web based tools. They are easy to install and operate and we're here to assist you in case you need it. We also have an image optimization API that you can use in your own applications from any programming language.
If you are interested in serving adaptive images from your non-WordPress site, you can use our Adaptive Images Standalone JavaScript.

No, but ShortPixel can generate the optimized WebP/AVIF version of any JPG, PNG or GIF image that you're optimizing. If your images are delivered using JavaScript, then it is possible that our way to serve the WebP/AVIF versions of your images to the compatible browsers will not work.

After signing up, you can upgrade to any of our available monthly plans. They give you access to larger image quotas that renew automatically each month. After purchasing a monthly subscription, the billing happens automatically each month until you decide to cancel your payments. No headaches. :)

Yes we do. The credits that come with our one-time packages never expire.
Yummy! :-)

The easiest way to quickly process more images is to buy several one-time packages. With each purchase, the one-time packages will add up to your quota.
If you need even more, we can accommodate any demands. Contact us and we can choose together one of our enterprise plans tailored for your business.

If you use ShortPixel Image Optimizer, your existing images are replaced with the optimized ones. If you choose the backup option, then the originals will be saved in a separate folder so you can restore them, should you ever need/want to do that.
On the other hand, if you use ShortPixel Adaptive Images, the optimization is happening on the fly, which means that your existing images are never edited and they always remain on your server.

Absolutely! Once optimized the images will remain optimized unless you explicitly choose to restore them. But why would you do that? :-)

We have both options available. One-time credits never expire but with monthly plans you pay less per credit. Check out our prices here

Whenever you want. The credits you still have available for the current billing period will still be available until the end of the billing period. At the end of it, you won't be billed again and the plan will be reset to the free plan.

Monthly credits expire after 30 days while one-time credits never expire.

Yes, we have several APIs and tools. You can learn more about it here: https://shortpixel.com/api-tools

Unfortunately not :-( But you can use either our command line tool or our web tool

Absolutely! Sometimes you'll need to make sure you whitelist some IPs, just contact us and we'll assist you with that.

The optimized images are kept on our servers for 2 hours so our image optimization plugin or you can download them. After this time, the images are deleted according to the standards. The images are separately kept and processed for each customer to prevent any unauthorized access.
If you make use of our CDN, your images are stored in our CDN cache in order to be able to serve them to your customers.

Your original images are saved in a backup folder located on your server at: /wp-content/uploads/ShortpixelBackups/

If you exhaust your free image credits, ShortPixel will stop optimizing. You can either wait for the next month's quota when your plan will renew, or change your plan.
