However, the first question that arises is: <strong>How do I know which thumbnails to exclude?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The real answer is that it depends on where you used each thumbnail size on your pages. Only the person who built the website will know if a particular thumbnail size is used on your website, but <strong>perhaps your theme provider can help as well<\/strong> since most thumbnail sizes are created by themes. They will know where each thumbnail is supposed to be used and for what purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, there are some thumbnail sizes that are used on many websites, and here&#8217;s what they do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><code>thumbnail<\/code>: Corresponds to the Thumbnail size in Settings > Media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>medium<\/code>: Corresponds to the Medium size in Settings > Media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>medium_large<\/code>: Created by WordPress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>large<\/code>: Corresponds to the Large size in Settings > Media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>1536x1536<\/code>: Created by WordPress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>2048x2048<\/code>: Created by WordPress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>woocommerce_thumbnail<\/code>: Created by WooCommerce,\u00a0used in the product \u2018grids\u2019 in places such as the shop page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>woocommerce_single<\/code>: Created by WooCommerce, used on single product pages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>woocommerce_gallery_thumbnail<\/code>: Created by WooCommerce,\u00a0used below the main image on the single product page to switch the gallery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>shop_catalog<\/code>: Created by WooCommerce, it&#8217;s an alias for <code>woocommerce_thumbnail<\/code>.
