{"id":880,"date":"2024-05-07T11:44:57","date_gmt":"2024-05-07T11:44:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kb.shortpixel.com\/docs\/when-i-deactivate-shortpixel-the-webp-images-diesappear-why\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T08:41:22","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T08:41:22","password":"","slug":"when-i-deactivate-shortpixel-the-webp-images-diesappear-why","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/kb.shortpixel.com\/knowledge-base\/article\/when-i-deactivate-shortpixel-the-webp-images-diesappear-why\/","title":{"rendered":"When I deactivate ShortPixel the WebP or AVIF images disappear, why?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If you have used ShortPixel Image Optimizer to optimize your images and generate the WebP\/AVIF versions, then the WebP\/AVIF images will remain on your hard drive even if you deactivate our plugin.\u00a0However, if you have also used ShortPixel&#8217;s functionality to <a href=\"https:\/\/shortpixel.com\/knowledge-base\/article\/which-webp-files-delivery-method-is-the-best-for-me\/\" rel=\"noopener\">deliver the next-gen images<\/a> and you deactivate ShortPixel, the next-gen images will no longer be delivered.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To resolve this issue, you can either <strong>activate ShortPixel again<\/strong> or use an alternative:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/shortpixel-adaptive-images\/\" rel=\"noopener\">ShortPixel Adaptive Images (SPAI)<\/a>. SPAI uses a different method to optimize your images and does not make WebP delivery dependent on your server. If you want to learn more about SPAI, <a href=\"https:\/\/shortpixel.com\/knowledge-base\/article\/how-shortpixel-adaptive-images-work\/\" rel=\"noopener\">read this article<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/fastpixel.io\" rel=\"noopener\">FastPixel<\/a>, an all-in-one cloud based WordPress plugin that automatically applies all the optimizations you can think of to make a website faster. This includes image optimization and WebP\/AVIF delivery.
