{"id":756,"date":"2024-05-07T11:42:47","date_gmt":"2024-05-07T11:42:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kb.shortpixel.com\/docs\/i-get-the-message-serve-scaled-images-when-using-spai-how-comes\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T08:43:59","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T08:43:59","password":"","slug":"i-get-the-message-serve-scaled-images-when-using-spai-how-comes","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/kb.shortpixel.com\/knowledge-base\/article\/i-get-the-message-serve-scaled-images-when-using-spai-how-comes\/","title":{"rendered":"I get the message &#8220;Properly size images&#8221; when using SPAI, how come?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t If you installed <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/shortpixel-adaptive-images\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ShortPixel Adaptive Images<\/a> (SPAI), ran a <a href=\"https:\/\/gtmetrix.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GTMetrix<\/a> test on your website and received such an error,<\/p>\n<p>\n\t <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kb.shortpixel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/file-6yNsNhJa1d.jpg\" style=\"width: 866px;\">then it is very likely that another plugin or theme is conflicting with ShortPixel thus preventing it from working correctly. Whether this is your case or not, here&#8217;s how you can try to solve this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><\/strong>First of all, make sure there isn&#8217;t a <strong>firewall or .htaccess rule<\/strong> preventing ShortPixel servers from accessing the original images. If so please make sure you <a href=\"https:\/\/help.shortpixel.com\/article\/52-ips-to-be-whitelisted\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whitelist ShortPixel&#8217;s IP addresses<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>SPAI is using lazy load technology so it can deliver appropriately sized images depending on the visitor&#8217;s viewport. That means you need to <strong>turn off any other lazy loading feature provided by your themes or plugins<\/strong> so that SPAI&#8217;s lazy load can work properly. Here&#8217;s an article about known plugins that <a href=\"https:\/\/help.shortpixel.com\/article\/220-i-installed-shortpixel-adaptive-images-but-it-doesnt-seem-to-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have such functionality and how to deactivate it<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Try activating one, some, or all of the following ShortPixel AI settings\n<ol>\n<li>Areas &gt; Lazy-load the backgrounds<br \/>\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kb.shortpixel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/file-lOvssk4ZSd.jpg\"><\/li>\n<li>Areas &gt;&nbsp;Replace in JSON data +&nbsp;Lazy-load JSON URLs<br \/>\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kb.shortpixel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/file-fy1ZaMDqPH.jpg\"><\/li>\n<li>Areas&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;Replace in the JS blocks +&nbsp;Lazy-load URLs in the JS blocks<br \/>\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kb.shortpixel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/file-QEmCwNfPMC.jpg\"><\/li>\n<li>Areas &gt; Replace in CSS files&nbsp;\n<p>\n\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kb.shortpixel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/file-0Tk4dXodv6.jpg\">\n\t\t<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>If none of the above helps then you can try following this&nbsp;step-by-step:\n<ol>\n<li><strong style=\"background-color: initial;\"><\/strong>go to your website, and click F12&nbsp;to open the&nbsp;<strong style=\"background-color: initial;\">Developer tools<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>go to the <strong>Network<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n<li>reload the page<\/li>\n<li>check whether you can see calls made to <strong style=\"background-color: initial;\">cdn.shortpixel.ai<\/strong> as in the screenshot below. If you can see &#8220;cdn.shortpixel.ai&#8221;, you still get the warning &#8220;Properly size images&#8221;, and you have tried everything above, please <a href=\"https:\/\/shortpixel.com\/contact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contact us<\/a>.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kb.shortpixel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/file-AlMRJHCWgq.png\"> <\/li>\n<li>if you <strong>cannot <\/strong>see<strong> <\/strong>such calls to &#8220;cdn.shortpixel.ai&#8221; on a page with images, then go to your WordPress dashboard, select Plugins and temporarily&nbsp;<strong style=\"background-color: initial;\">deactivate all your plugins<\/strong>. After that, just activate ShortPixel Adaptive Images and make sure the images are served from ShortPixel&#8217;s CDN (see previous step).<\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"background-color: initial;\">activate, one by one<\/strong>, each of the other plugins and after each plugin activation, reload the test page and repeat step <strong>d<\/strong>&nbsp;until you notice that the images aren&#8217;t loaded from our CDN anymore. When that happens, it means that you have found <strong style=\"background-color: initial;\">the plugin conflicting with SPAI<\/strong>. Congratulations! \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<li>keep the conflicting plugin deactivated, <strong style=\"background-color: initial;\">activate all the other plugins<\/strong> that you need and make sure that SPAI is still working as explained in step <strong>d<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>if the conflicting plugin isn&#8217;t important for your website, then just keep it deactivated.
