If you\u2019re seeing the message \u201cImage EXIF settings restrict AI usage\u201d<\/strong> when trying to generate AI SEO data (alt tags, captions, or descriptions), the issue is most likely related to your EXIF settings<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why this happens<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When the \u201cNo AI Training\u201d flag<\/strong> is enabled in an image\u2019s EXIF data, AI models are prevented from processing that image. ShortPixel respects this flag, so any image with it set will block AI-based data generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even if you later change the EXIF setting in ShortPixel\u2019s options, images that were previously optimized will still retain their old EXIF data with the \u201cNo AI Training\u201d flag, which continues to restrict AI access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to fix It<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To enable AI SEO generation for your images, you\u2019ll need to reprocess your existing media so that the EXIF data is updated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Bulk restore<\/a> your images<\/strong>: Go to Settings > ShortPixel > Tools > Bulk Restore<\/strong> and restore all optimized images from backup.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Update the EXIF setting<\/strong>: After the restore is complete, go to Settings > ShortPixel > Image Optimization > EXIF Management <\/strong>and update the EXIF option to allow AI training.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      The reoptimization step is necessary because the EXIF metadata is embedded within each image. Changing the setting alone doesn\u2019t rewrite existing EXIF data; only restoring and reoptimizing the images applies the new configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
